The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed multiple lists circulating on social media claiming to contain the results of its primary elections in Enugu State, insisting that no official announcement has been made regarding the outcome of the exercise.
The party described the reports as false, unauthorized, and misleading, warning members, aspirants, and the public against relying on unofficial information being shared across online platforms. According to the NDC, only its constitutionally recognized organs have the authority to announce and ratify the results of the primaries.
Speaking in Enugu, the National Secretary of the party, Ikenna Morgan, stated that the primary elections were successfully conducted across the state for various positions, including governorship, National Assembly, State Assembly, and presidential tickets. He explained that the exercise was carried out through a direct primary system, allowing eligible party members to vote for candidates of their choice.
Morgan said the process was supervised by the party’s National Electoral Committee and monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), stressing that the exercise complied with the Electoral Act and the party’s internal guidelines.
The NDC leadership acknowledged that vote collation and verification had been completed but maintained that the official results remained with the appropriate authorities pending formal ratification and announcement. The party warned that any individual, group, or platform claiming to possess authentic results was acting outside its mandate.
The controversy erupted after conflicting lists allegedly showing winners of the Enugu primaries flooded social media, generating confusion among party supporters and political observers. The development triggered widespread speculation over who emerged victorious in the keenly contested races.
Party officials assured aspirants that transparency and due process would be followed before the final names of successful candidates are forwarded to INEC in line with legal requirements. The leadership also urged members to remain calm and avoid actions capable of creating tension within the party.
The latest dispute highlights the growing challenge of misinformation during Nigeria’s political season, as parties continue to battle fake announcements, unauthorized endorsements, and manipulated election-related content circulating online.
As anticipation grows among party faithful, the NDC leadership insists that only officially released results should be regarded as authentic, warning that disciplinary measures could be taken against individuals spreading false information capable of undermining the integrity of the party’s internal democratic processes.
