Over Two Weeks After Oyo School Kidnap, Tinubu Sends Ribadu-Led Security Delegation

The Federal Government has dispatched a high-level security delegation led by the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, to Oyo State, more than two weeks after the abduction of students and staff from a school in the state.

The move comes amid growing public concern over the slow response to the incident and renewed calls for urgent action to secure the release of the victims.

According to reports, the delegation was sent by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to assess the security situation, coordinate ongoing rescue efforts, and engage with state authorities and affected communities as part of renewed intervention measures.

The Oyo school abduction, which occurred earlier in May, involved armed attackers who invaded the school premises and kidnapped several students and staff members, triggering widespread outrage and fear across the region. The incident has also intensified debates over school security and the safety of learning environments in Nigeria.

The latest visit by the Ribadu-led team is expected to strengthen coordination between federal and state security agencies as operations continue to track the abductors and secure the release of the victims.

Security sources say efforts are ongoing, although details of the rescue operations remain closely guarded for operational reasons. Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact number of those still in captivity or provided a timeline for their possible release.

The abduction adds to a growing list of school-related kidnapping incidents in Nigeria, raising concerns about persistent insecurity despite repeated government assurances and ongoing military operations in affected regions.

Residents and stakeholders have continued to call on the government to intensify security presence around schools, particularly in vulnerable areas, to prevent further attacks.

As of the time of filing this report, the Presidency and security agencies had not issued additional details beyond the deployment of the delegation.
