Enugu Govt Denies Report of Attack in Awgu Community, Says Security Situation Remains Calm

The Enugu State Government has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that armed attackers invaded Awgu community in Awgu Local Government Area of the state, insisting that no such incident occurred anywhere in the state.

According to the government, the reports suggesting a violent attack and possible casualties are false, misleading, and capable of causing unnecessary panic among residents.

The Commissioner for Information and Communication stated that security agencies have confirmed there was no breach of peace in Awgu or any other part of Enugu State, adding that residents continue their normal daily activities without disruption.

The government described the claims as fabricated and urged the public to disregard the information being spread online, warning against the circulation of unverified security reports.

The clarification comes amid heightened sensitivity over security issues in parts of the South-East, where recent rumours and viral posts have occasionally triggered public anxiety despite official denials from authorities.

Authorities in the state reiterated that maintaining peace and public order remains a priority and encouraged citizens to rely only on verified official channels for security updates.
