The Kwara State Security Watch Network has called on the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to sustain and expand ongoing drone surveillance operations across Kwara State as part of efforts to combat banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes threatening communities in the region.
The group said recent security operations supported by drone technology have demonstrated the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing in tracking criminal movements, monitoring forest corridors, and improving the response capacity of security agencies. According to the organization, the deployment of modern surveillance tools has contributed to efforts aimed at curbing criminal activities in vulnerable communities across the state.
The appeal comes amid growing concerns over insecurity in parts of North-Central Nigeria, where residents continue to face threats from kidnappers, bandits, and other armed groups. The Security Watch Network noted that maintaining pressure on criminal elements is essential to preventing them from regrouping and launching fresh attacks.
The group further urged security agencies to strengthen coordinated forest patrols and intelligence-gathering operations, particularly in remote areas often used as hideouts by criminal gangs. It argued that sustained aerial surveillance and real-time intelligence sharing remain critical to disrupting criminal networks and enhancing public safety.
The call follows recent security initiatives in Kwara State aimed at tackling rising insecurity through collaboration between the police, military, local vigilante groups, and community stakeholders.
