Protesting teachers and concerned residents on Tuesday stormed the Ogun State Government House in Abeokuta, demanding urgent government intervention over the continued abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State.

The demonstration comes amid growing nationwide outrage following the kidnapping of pupils and staff from schools in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, an incident that has triggered protests across several states in the South-West.

According to reports, the protesters attempted to force entry into the government premises while chanting solidarity songs and carrying placards calling for the immediate rescue of the abducted victims and stronger security measures in schools and rural communities.

The action in Ogun follows similar protests in Oyo State, where teachers and civil society groups have shut down schools and staged demonstrations, demanding swift rescue operations and accountability from security agencies.

In Ibadan, teachers under the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) had earlier embarked on protests and subsequently declared industrial action in response to the incident, citing rising fear and insecurity in learning environments.

Protesters in Ogun also expressed frustration over repeated school attacks across the region, warning that continued insecurity could further disrupt education and endanger children unless urgent federal and state intervention is taken.

Authorities are yet to issue an official response regarding the attempted entry into the Ogun Government House, but security presence has reportedly been increased around the premises following the protest.

No official update has confirmed the release of the abducted pupils and teachers at the time of reporting.
