Lecturers at a federal college in Enugu State have shut down academic activities and commenced a two-week strike over what they described as unresolved grievances linked to the institution’s leadership and governance structure.

The industrial action reportedly followed mounting tensions between staff and management over allegations of administrative irregularities and dissatisfaction with the handling of internal affairs at the college.
According to reports, the lecturers’ union directed members to withdraw their services, effectively grounding academic and administrative activities for the duration of the strike.
The strike action is said to be connected to broader disputes involving staff welfare, institutional governance, and alleged imposition of administrative decisions without due consultation.
The development adds to growing concerns over recurring industrial actions in Nigeria’s tertiary education sector, which has continued to experience disruptions caused by unresolved labour disputes between staff unions and government or institutional authorities.
As of the time of filing this report, the management of the college had not issued an official response to the strike action, while efforts to resolve the dispute were reportedly ongoing.
