Bandit Threat Forces Teachers, Pupils to Flee Suleja School as Authorities Order Closure

A primary school in Suleja, Niger State, has been shut indefinitely following fears of a possible bandit attack, forcing teachers and pupils to abandon academic activities amid growing insecurity in the area.

According to Sahara Reporters, panic gripped the school community after reports emerged of armed bandits operating in nearby communities, raising concerns over the safety of students and staff.

The security scare reportedly led to the suspension of classes, with parents rushing to withdraw their children while teachers also vacated the premises as a precautionary measure.

Residents expressed concern that the worsening security situation is increasingly disrupting education and normal community life, particularly in areas vulnerable to attacks by armed groups.

The latest development comes amid recurring incidents of kidnappings and attacks on schools in parts of Northern Nigeria, where insecurity has continued to threaten access to education.

Community members have called on security agencies and government authorities to strengthen protection around schools and vulnerable settlements to prevent further disruptions.

At the time of reporting, authorities had yet to announce when the affected school would reopen, with residents urging urgent intervention to restore confidence and safety in the area.

The incident highlights the continuing impact of insecurity on Nigeria’s education sector, as students and teachers remain among the populations most affected by the activities of armed criminal groups.
