The family of a Nigerian police inspector who was critically wounded during a deadly attack by gunmen in Rivers State has appealed to the public for urgent financial assistance as he battles for survival in hospital.

The officer, identified as Inspector Aleru, reportedly sustained severe gunshot injuries when armed assailants attacked a police checkpoint along the Mbodo-Aluu axis of Obiri Ikwerre in Rivers State.
The attack claimed the lives of two of his colleagues, leaving the inspector as the lone survivor of the deadly assault.

Relatives have now made a public appeal for financial support, urging Nigerians, philanthropists, and well-meaning organizations to help save his life.
The incident is one of several violent attacks targeting security personnel in Rivers State, highlighting the worsening insecurity confronting both law enforcement officers and ordinary citizens.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Police Command has launched a manhunt for those responsible for the attack, vowing that the perpetrators will be identified and brought to justice.
The latest tragedy has renewed concerns over the escalating wave of armed violence across Nigeria and the need for improved protection, welfare, and medical support for security personnel operating on the frontlines.
