Security operatives have successfully repelled another attempted attack on the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, Plateau State, killing one suspected gunman during a fierce exchange of gunfire. The latest attack comes just weeks after a previous assault on the nation’s foremost policy institute.

According to NIPSS, the attackers attempted to breach the institute’s security perimeter at about 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday but were met with a swift and coordinated response from security personnel. One of the suspected assailants was killed during the gun battle, while several others reportedly fled the scene with varying degrees of injuries.
In a statement issued by the institute’s Head of Public Affairs, Dr. Osime Samuel, NIPSS confirmed that the attackers failed to gain access to the facility and assured that all participants of the Senior Executive Course, staff, residents, and institute facilities remained safe and unharmed.
The institute disclosed that security agencies have intensified efforts to track down the fleeing suspects while strengthening surveillance and other proactive security measures within and around the institution. NIPSS also commended the professionalism and prompt response of security personnel and urged members of the public to disregard unverified reports capable of causing unnecessary panic.
The renewed attack has heightened concerns over the security situation in Plateau State and the safety of strategic national institutions, particularly following recent violent incidents targeting the institute and other parts of the state.
