The father of Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, the self-proclaimed Director-General of the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), has alleged that police operatives raided his home three times within two days while searching for his son, describing the experience as traumatic. The claims come amid the ongoing investigation into the disputed agency.
Speaking about the incident, Pa Adetunji Adeniyi said armed security operatives scaled the fence of his residence in Ogbomoso, damaged the security wire, searched every room and cupboard, confiscated the family’s mobile phones, and repeatedly questioned him about his son’s whereabouts. He said the officers later took him to a police station after he told them he did not know where his son lived in Abuja.
The elderly Adeniyi maintained that he was unaware of any wrongdoing by his son and described him as a peaceful person who had never been associated with violence or criminal behaviour. He said the repeated raids and his brief detention had left him distressed and fearful.
The incident has attracted criticism from human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN), who argued that arresting or detaining a suspect’s relative has no basis under Nigerian law. Falana said any investigation should be directed at the suspect rather than members of the suspect’s family.
The development comes as investigations continue into the PFIPC controversy, with Adeyemi facing allegations relating to forgery, impersonation, and the operations of the disputed agency. Authorities are yet to issue a detailed response to the father’s allegations regarding the raids.
