Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, the self-styled Director-General of the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), at a village hideout in Ijesaland, Osun State, following a bench warrant issued by the Federal High Court, Abuja, over his failure to appear for arraignment.
According to security sources, operatives of the Force Headquarters’ Federal Investigation Department/Intelligence Response Team (FID/IRT) stormed the hideout and apprehended Adeyemi after intelligence gathered during a five-day tracking operation reportedly conducted with support from the Department of State Services (DSS). The Osun State Police Command confirmed that the suspect was arrested in the state and subsequently transferred to Abuja for further legal proceedings.
Adeyemi’s arrest came shortly after Justice Mohammed Umar issued a bench warrant when the defendant failed to appear in court to answer an eight-count charge bordering on alleged forgery, fraud, and impersonation. Prosecuting counsel Wisdom Madaki informed the court that the defendant had repeatedly failed to appear for trial despite several adjournments, prompting the court to order his arrest and adjourn the case until September 30 for arraignment.
During the court proceedings, Adeyemi’s counsel, Genesis Francis, argued that his client stayed away from court because of alleged threats to his life. However, the court rejected the explanation and granted the prosecution’s application for a warrant, directing security agencies to arrest and produce the defendant before the court.
The charges stem from an ongoing police investigation into the disputed PFIPC, which investigators allege was used to circulate forged government documents and impersonate a legitimate Federal Government agency. An interim police report had earlier alleged that forged appointment letters, official correspondence, and other documents were used to project the PFIPC as an authorised government institution.
Adeyemi has consistently denied the allegations, insisting that his appointment was legitimate and claiming that his life was under threat. The charges against him remain allegations, and his guilt or innocence will be determined by the court.
