As campaigns intensify ahead of the 15 August Osun State governorship election, Mrs Kafayat Oyetola, wife of the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy and former Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, has inaugurated a 10,000-member female canvassers’ group to mobilise grassroots support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO).
Operating under the platform “Akoni Obinrin” (Brave Women), the volunteers embarked on a solidarity walk through major streets in Osogbo, including MDS, Station Road, Fagbewesa, Ola-Iya and Aregbe, before concluding at the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Office in Ogo-Oluwa. The mobilisation is aimed at strengthening grassroots support for the APC ahead of the governorship poll.
Speaking during the event, Mrs Oyetola said the group was originally established to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid but had now expanded its activities to campaign for Oyebamiji’s governorship ambition. She described the APC candidate as an experienced administrator with the capacity to lead Osun State effectively.
Also addressing supporters, Mrs Sekinat Oyebamiji, wife of the APC governorship candidate, said the initiative was designed to encourage greater participation of women in the electoral process while building momentum for both the governorship election and President Tinubu’s future political ambitions.
Oyebamiji, who later joined the procession, described the exercise as a “Walk to Win” and urged women across the state to turn out massively on election day. He pledged to revitalise key sectors of Osun’s economy if elected, insisting that an APC victory would restore development and prosperity to the state.
The event attracted several APC leaders and stakeholders, including the wife of the deputy governorship candidate, Princess Adebukola Adereti; Chairperson of the Federal Character Commission, Hon. Ayo Omidiran; and former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Taiwo Oluga. The mobilisation reflects the APC’s intensified grassroots campaign as political parties make their final push ahead of the closely watched Osun governorship election.
