A Yoruba socio-political coalition has accused South-West governors of failing to act decisively on repeated early warnings of escalating terrorist activities across the region, warning that the security situation has now reached a critical and dangerous stage.
The group raised the alarm in reaction to recent attacks and kidnappings in parts of the South-West, including incidents involving schoolchildren and rural communities, which have sparked widespread protests and growing public anxiety.
According to the coalition, several warning signs and intelligence reports had previously pointed to the infiltration of armed groups into multiple local government areas across the region, but it alleged that coordinated preventive action was not taken in time to stop the deterioration of security.
The group argued that the rising attacks are evidence of what it described as “avoidable security failures,” insisting that stronger collaboration between state governments, local security structures, and federal agencies could have reduced the current level of violence.
The warning comes amid increasing pressure on state authorities following recent school abductions and protests in Oyo, Ogun, and Enugu States, where citizens have demanded urgent action and improved protection for vulnerable communities.
Security analysts and civil society groups have also continued to call for improved intelligence sharing, faster response mechanisms, and stronger community-based security coordination as attacks spread across parts of the region.
As of the time of filing this report, South-West governors have not issued a direct response to the latest allegations by the coalition, while public concern over insecurity continues to grow.
