Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued five members of the family of the Chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Hon. Nura Umar Abdullahi, following a deadly terrorist attack on his residence. Security forces, however, say efforts are continuing to secure the chairman’s release after he was abducted during the assault.

According to military authorities, heavily armed terrorists stormed the chairman’s residence in the early hours of Saturday, overpowering police officers and local vigilantes attached to his security before abducting him alongside members of his family. Troops responded swiftly after receiving reports of the attack and engaged the fleeing assailants in a fierce gun battle.

The military said the rescued victims include the chairman’s wife, two children, his mother and another relative. The terrorists reportedly abandoned them while escaping under pressure from advancing troops. The chairman, however, remains in captivity as security personnel continue coordinated search-and-rescue operations across the area.

During the attack, four security personnel attached to the chairman’s residence were reportedly killed while attempting to repel the terrorists. The incident underscores the persistent security challenges facing Zamfara State, where armed groups continue to carry out kidnappings, killings and attacks on communities despite ongoing military operations.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA said troops have intensified efforts to locate and rescue the abducted council chairman, assuring residents that military operations will continue until he is safely recovered. Authorities also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide credible intelligence to support ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
