Nigerian rapper and activist Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has clarified that he has never publicly endorsed Peter Obi or any other politician, stressing that his political interventions have always been driven by principles rather than partisan allegiance.
Speaking during a recent interview, Falz explained that although he has consistently criticised bad governance and spoken out on national issues, he has deliberately refrained from openly backing any political party or candidate. According to him, his commitment is to promoting good governance, accountability and a credible democratic process rather than campaigning for individual politicians.
“I have never openly endorsed Peter Obi or any politician or political party. I clamour for a free and fair democratic process. I haven’t stuck out my neck for any politician for obvious reasons,” the musician said.
Falz noted that his public criticism of government policies should not be interpreted as support for opposition politicians. He maintained that elected leaders must be held accountable regardless of their political affiliation and urged Nigerians to focus on competence, integrity and policies when choosing their leaders.
The award-winning artiste has been one of Nigeria’s most outspoken entertainers on issues of governance, human rights and social justice. He played a prominent role during the #EndSARS protests in 2020 and has continued to use his platform to demand accountability, respect for the rule of law and improved living conditions for Nigerians.
His latest remarks come amid increasing political activity ahead of the 2027 general elections, with public figures facing growing pressure to declare support for particular candidates or political parties.
