Democracy Day Protest: Femi Falana, #EndBadGovernance Activists Lead Demonstration in Lagos Over Insecurity, Economic Hardship

Prominent human rights lawyer Femi Falana and members of the #EndBadGovernance Movement joined scores of Nigerians at Ikeja Underbridge in Lagos on Thursday to protest worsening insecurity, economic hardship, and the declining living conditions facing millions across the country.

The demonstrators, who gathered as part of the June 12 Democracy Day actions, carried placards and chanted slogans demanding urgent government action to address rising poverty, hunger, unemployment, kidnappings, and other security challenges affecting communities nationwide.

Participants argued that Democracy Day should not only commemorate Nigeria’s democratic journey but also serve as a platform for citizens to demand accountability, social justice, and policies that improve the welfare of ordinary people.

The protesters expressed concern over the rising cost of living and the continued insecurity affecting many parts of the country, insisting that government must take concrete measures to protect lives and improve economic conditions.

The Lagos demonstration formed part of a broader nationwide mobilisation involving civil society organisations, labour activists, youth groups, pro-democracy campaigners, and members of the #EndBadGovernance Movement.

Organisers maintained that the protest was peaceful and aimed at drawing attention to issues affecting workers, students, traders, farmers, and other Nigerians struggling with the country’s economic and security challenges.
