Gunmen Ambush, Kill Former Benue SSG Simon Shango

Former Secretary to the Benue State Government (SSG), Dr. Simon Shango, has been shot dead after gunmen ambushed his vehicle along the Makurdi–Gboko Road in Benue State, further heightening concerns over the worsening security situation in the state.

According to reports, the assailants intercepted Shango’s vehicle and opened fire, killing him at the scene before fleeing. Security agencies were later deployed to the area, while his body was evacuated following the attack.

The killing has sparked widespread condemnation from political leaders, associates, and residents, many of whom described Shango as a respected public servant who contributed significantly to governance and public administration in Benue State.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the attack and commenced efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible. Security agencies have assured the public that the perpetrators will be tracked down and brought to justice.

The incident adds to the growing wave of violent attacks across Benue State, where recurring killings, armed attacks, kidnappings, and communal violence continue to pose serious security challenges despite ongoing efforts by security agencies to restore peace.
