‘I Won’t Join Politicians Who Destroyed Nigeria Just to Gain Power’ — Sowore Rejects Opposition Coalition

Human rights activist and the AAC presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has ruled out joining any political coalition made up of politicians he believes contributed to Nigeria’s decades of corruption, misrule, and economic decline, insisting that he will not sacrifice his principles for political power.

Sowore said he could not align himself with individuals and political figures whose records, in his view, were responsible for the country’s current challenges. He maintained that replacing one set of politicians with another from the same political establishment would not bring genuine change to Nigeria.

Responding to calls for him to join an opposition alliance ahead of the 2027 general elections, Sowore declared that his allegiance remains with ordinary Nigerians rather than politicians seeking power through political realignments.

According to him, he has never been part of what he described as the political class responsible for looting public resources, undermining democracy, violating human rights, and deepening poverty across the country. He stressed that he would only work with individuals genuinely committed to ending injustice and transforming Nigeria.

Sowore’s remarks come amid growing efforts by opposition politicians to build a united front against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections. However, the activist insists that changing political parties without changing the individuals behind them cannot deliver meaningful national transformation.

He reaffirmed his commitment to what he described as a movement for justice, accountability, and the liberation of Nigerians from decades of bad governance, arguing that true political change must be driven by integrity rather than political convenience.
