Two police operatives, identified as Kehinde and Tobi, have lost their lives after being knocked down by a hit-and-run driver along the Osogbo–Gbongan Road in Oogi community, Osun State.
The Osun State Police Command confirmed the incident on Thursday, stating that the officers were on a motorcycle when they were struck by a Lexus vehicle on Wednesday.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene immediately after the crash, leaving the victims behind.
“The two police operatives were travelling on a motorcycle when they were hit by a Lexus car. The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene,” Ojelabi said.
He further disclosed that the police have launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspect, while both the Lexus vehicle and the motorcycle involved in the accident have been recovered for investigation.
“We have commenced investigation into the incident and we are currently tracking the driver. The vehicle and motorcycle have been taken into custody,” he added.
Ojelabi also confirmed that one of the deceased officers has already been buried according to Islamic rites, while burial arrangements for the second officer are ongoing.
