Police Arrest Four Suspects, Neutralise Two in Adelabu Sister Kidnap Rescue Operation

The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of four suspects linked to the abduction of Mrs Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, the younger sister of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and her two children.

The police disclosed that the suspects were apprehended during a coordinated rescue operation carried out on Saturday night in the Ayegun area of Oluyole Local Government Area of Oyo State. Two other suspected kidnappers were reportedly killed during an exchange of gunfire with security operatives.

According to the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Oluwagbemiga Abimbola, security operatives acted on credible intelligence that led them to a hideout where the victims were being held. The operation resulted in the successful rescue of Mrs John-Paul and her twin sons without harm.

The police further revealed that firearms, including a pump-action gun and other weapons, were recovered during the raid. Authorities stated that some members of the kidnapping gang escaped with gunshot wounds and are currently being tracked by security agencies.

Mrs John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin sons were abducted on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at the Elewura-Challenge area of Ibadan while she was taking the children to school. Reports indicated that the kidnappers trailed the family before intercepting their vehicle and whisking them away.

The Nigeria Police Force has vowed to continue operations aimed at apprehending all remaining members of the syndicate and bringing them to justice. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
