Suspected Kidnappers Kill Soldier, Injure Another During Abduction Attempt in Ogun

A soldier was killed and another injured after suspected kidnappers opened fire on security personnel during an attempted abduction in the Magbon-Etido area of Mowe, Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.

According to The Punch, the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday when armed men reportedly stormed the community in an attempt to kidnap a resident. The operation was said to have been disrupted by soldiers who intervened to prevent the abduction.

Sources told the newspaper that a gun battle ensued between the attackers and the security personnel, during which one soldier was fatally shot while another sustained injuries. Eyewitness accounts indicated that the kidnappers fled the scene after the exchange of gunfire.

A viral video circulating on social media showed a vehicle conveying what appeared to be the body of the slain soldier, prompting widespread concern among residents. However, security sources clarified that the incident was a kidnapping operation and not a bandit attack as initially speculated.

Another community source stated that the attackers had targeted a local resident for abduction before soldiers moved in to foil the operation. The intervention reportedly triggered the deadly confrontation.

Security agencies have since commenced efforts to track down the fleeing suspects, while residents have called for increased security presence in the area amid growing concerns over kidnapping activities in parts of Ogun State.
