Terrorists Allegedly Used Diversion Tactic Before Attacking Kwara Emir’s Palace

Fresh details have emerged regarding the recent attack on the palace of the Emir of Yashikira in Kwara State, with reports indicating that the assailants employed a calculated diversion tactic to weaken local resistance before launching their operation.

According to sources familiar with the incident, the attackers allegedly spread information about an imminent security threat in another location, prompting vigilante groups and community security volunteers to mobilise away from the palace area. The move reportedly left the Emir’s palace vulnerable and created an opportunity for the terrorists to strike with minimal resistance.

The attack is the latest in a series of security incidents that have heightened fears across Kwara State, where communities have increasingly come under pressure from armed groups operating in forested and rural areas. In recent months, residents have reported a rise in kidnappings, violent attacks, and threats against traditional institutions.

Community leaders and residents have expressed concern over what they describe as the growing sophistication of terrorist operations, noting that armed groups are increasingly deploying deception, misinformation, and coordinated attacks to evade local security measures and exploit weaknesses in community defence systems.

The revelations have renewed calls for improved intelligence gathering, stronger collaboration between security agencies and local communities, and enhanced protection for vulnerable settlements across the state.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the allegations surrounding the reported diversion tactic, while investigations into the attack and related security incidents remain ongoing.
