Tinubu to Address Nigerians on Democracy Day Amid Economic and Security Challenges

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to address Nigerians on June 12 as the country marks Democracy Day, a national event commemorating the struggle for democratic governance and civil rule.

According to reports, the President’s nationwide broadcast is expected to focus on key national issues, including the economy, security, governance reforms, and the administration’s policy direction. The address comes at a time when many Nigerians continue to express concerns over rising living costs, insecurity, unemployment, and other socio-economic challenges.

Democracy Day, observed annually on June 12, honours the democratic struggle associated with the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election, widely regarded as one of the freest elections in Nigeria’s history.

This year’s commemoration comes amid heightened political debate, with several civil society organisations, labour activists, and pro-democracy groups planning demonstrations to draw attention to issues such as insecurity, hunger, poverty, and economic hardship.

Government officials have continued to defend ongoing economic reforms, arguing that current policies are necessary to stabilise the economy and lay the foundation for long-term growth and development.

Many Nigerians are expected to closely follow the President’s address for possible announcements on governance, economic policy, security measures, and other matters of national importance.
