Tuggar Dismisses Anti-Tinubu Claims, Reaffirms Loyalty While Advocating Fair APC Primaries

Agency Report

Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has reaffirmed his loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the policies of the current administration, dismissing reports suggesting that he criticised the President during a recent media interview.

Tuggar, through a statement issued on Sunday by his media aide, Abdulkadir Alkassim, described such reports as a misrepresentation of his comments, insisting that his remarks had been taken out of context.

According to the statement, the former minister did not at any point criticise or question President Tinubu’s leadership, stressing that claims suggesting otherwise were false and misleading.

Alkassim stated that Tuggar remains a committed supporter of the President and fully aligned with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, as well as the objectives of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The statement explained that the interview in question focused primarily on political developments within the APC in Bauchi State, particularly the need for transparency, fairness, and internal democracy in the party’s candidate selection process.

Tuggar reportedly emphasized that party members should be allowed to freely choose their preferred candidates through open and credible primaries, arguing that all aspirants deserve a fair opportunity to test their popularity within the party.

He also expressed concerns over alleged attempts to influence the APC governorship selection process in Bauchi State, maintaining that competitive and transparent contests remain essential to strengthening democracy within the party.

The statement further referenced President Tinubu’s directive requiring political appointees seeking elective offices to resign within the stipulated timeframe, noting that aspirants are expected to comply with the guideline.

According to his aide, Tuggar’s comments were intended to promote party unity, fairness, and democratic participation rather than criticize the President or the federal government.

The former minister reiterated his commitment to the APC, the Tinubu administration, and efforts aimed at promoting development, prosperity, and good governance in Nigeria.
