Anti-Xenophobia Anger Erupts in Ghana as Protesters Storm MTN Headquarters Over Attacks on Africans in South Africa

Tension heightened in Ghana’s capital, Accra, on Wednesday as protesters marched to the headquarters of MTN Ghana, chanting slogans against South Africa and demanding stronger action over growing anti-immigrant sentiments and xenophobic attacks targeting Africans in South Africa.

According to reports, demonstrators carrying placards and banners gathered in Accra before proceeding to the telecommunications company’s premises, where they voiced anger over recent attacks on African migrants and businesses in South Africa. Videos circulating on social media showed protesters chanting “South Africa Must Go” as the demonstration unfolded.

The protest comes amid growing tensions across parts of Africa following reports of xenophobic attacks directed at foreign nationals, including citizens of several African countries. Some groups have accused South African authorities of failing to adequately address anti-immigrant violence and rising hostility toward migrants.

Observers warn that the situation could further strain relations between African communities if governments fail to address concerns surrounding migration, unemployment, security, and xenophobia through diplomatic and lawful means.

The latest demonstration reflects growing frustration among sections of the Ghanaian public, even as calls continue for peaceful engagement and regional cooperation to address migration-related tensions across the continent.
