FG: Nigeria Moving in the Right Direction Despite Challenges — Akume

The Federal Government has said Nigeria is “moving in the right direction,” insisting that ongoing economic reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are beginning to produce measurable results despite prevailing hardship and insecurity in parts of the country.

This was disclosed during a Democracy Day briefing in Abuja, where top government officials defended the administration’s performance and outlined key achievements recorded under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

According to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, the country is gradually transitioning “from economic fragility toward stronger institutional and economic stability,” noting that recent indicators show signs of recovery.

He acknowledged that Nigerians are still facing inflationary pressure, insecurity, and cost-of-living challenges, but maintained that reforms initiated by the government are already yielding positive outcomes in key sectors.

Akume pointed to improvements in economic growth rates, expanded access to credit schemes, student loan interventions, and increased social protection programmes as evidence of progress.

He added that government efforts in healthcare expansion, financial reforms, and anti-corruption initiatives are part of a broader strategy aimed at stabilising the economy and strengthening public institutions.

On insecurity, the SGF admitted that challenges remain but said security agencies are recording progress through intensified operations against criminal groups and improved coordination across regions.

He stressed that the administration remains committed to sustaining reforms and ensuring that their benefits gradually reach more Nigerians.

While calling for patience from citizens, Akume said the government is aware of the difficulties facing households and is working to ensure that economic gains translate into improved living standards.

The briefing formed part of activities marking Nigeria’s Democracy Day and the third year of the current administration’s tenure.
